This page displays information about the taxon Meloidae, also known as Blister beetles.
Formerly classified as Soldier beetles (Cantharidae), therefor the poison they secrete when in danger is called Cantharidine. Not that there's a near relationship to the Cantharidae. All species are protected by law (in Germany) because they became rare due to the fight against their hosts (Bees, mostly solitary bees) by the agricultural industry (insecticides).
